Altar Guild

Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. - Matthew 20:26-28

The duties of the Altar Guild are to prepare the church for worship on Sunday mornings and the other special services. They put up banners and hymn numbers. When there is communion, they put out the communion cards in the pews and set up the elements for communion and take it down to clean afterwards. They also take care of the candles and the acolytes. Guild members will also create banners when needed.

During festival seasons they arrange for flowers to be provided for worship services including Easter Lilies and Christmas poinsettias. They decorate the Christmas tree and put up decorations in the sanctuary and during the Lenten season they make Palm crosses for all the worshippers on Palm Sunday and get the sanctuary ready for Good Friday and Easter morning service.

In short, while the work of the Altar Guild can be summarized as housekeeping, but it is so much more. Their diligence ensures the worship service proceeds as smoothly as possible.  Their work sets the foundation of pleasant order upon which the the Word and Sacraments can be distributed to the flock of Christ.

The Altar Guild meets on the 3rd Thursday every other month.
